Magic scrolls, they’re embed with magical energy focused around one particular spell. This grants the user to cast spells that they may not have prepared for the day, or may not be experienced enough to cast safely. These scrolls require an experienced wizard to inscribe a piece of paper, so many high ranking wizards will sell their more valuable scrolls to the international ministry of magic to earn a little extra money. Other scrolls can be found deep inside dungeons, where experienced wizards may have perished or within treasure chests.
These little pieces of magical parchment have been useful to young wizards and witches everywhere since the early days of the magical arts. Though they were useful back then, now a days most spell casters don’t realize how much of a scam they are now.
Scrolls are not cheap, and once the caster activates the spell, the parchment is destroyed forcing the wizard to purchase more. This creates a recurring revenue stream for their scroll supplier, earning them more money in the long run. The thing is, there is a far more efficient item that has the same purpose of a scroll without the one time use. WANDS! That’s right, magical wands can be used over and over again, as long as they retain a charge. Also, once they are used up, the caster can easily get it recharged by a high ranking wizard. So much more bang for your buck than a silly scroll.
So, why are scrolls still used so much? Greedy wizards restrict the market by only making so many wands each year. That makes it extremely difficult for young wizards to find magical wands, and even when they do find a vendor the cost may be too high. But the cost to create a wand is nearly equivalent to that of a scroll, so really it boils down to experienced witches and wizards exploiting their younger counterparts.
I disagree with this shady business tactic. If wands are more efficient, while keeping costs the same, then we, as experienced wizards, should take it upon ourselves to distribute them to magic casters in need.
